Normandy, France | April 2023

Come join us in Normandy, France, for a fun-filled and community-centered worldschooling gathering April 30 - May 6, 2023. This gathering coincides with the May 5th worldschool prom (separate entrance fee) for our worldschooled teenagers. All families who wish to explore Normandy are welcome at this pop-up, it's not necessary to have a teen. However, we do expect that teens will want to to interact with each other during the pop-up before they attend the fancy dance together. 

Our pop-ups provide a super casual, budget-friendly opportunity to gather, connect with other worldschoolers, learn about the local area, instill new friendships, share insights, and immerse in a friendly, accepting mobile community.

Additionally our itineraries highlight local nature, arts, history, food, and culture... but you'll also have plenty of time to relax, get to know each other, and even stray from the itinerary to add activities that cater to the group's interests.

Pop in for a few days or the full week. Join as many activities as you'd like. It's up to you! We would love to have you come and simply hang out with like-minded families while we dive in and explore the local offerings.

Our itinerary will include activities such as the following:

*Local château history (the 17th century manor house was home to one of Louis  XIV's warriors, the chapel was designed by Mansart)

*D-Day history and beaches

*Bird watching in the local marshes

*Ruins of former abbeys

*Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Coutances

*Multiple WWII museums

*Hikes by the ocean

*Archeological site Vieux-la-Romaine, an ancient Roman settlement from 100-220 CE

*Musée d’art et d’histoire

Option to add on a visit to Mont Saint-Michel, Château de Pirou, Abbaye de Cerisy-la-Forêt, a multitude of WWII historic areas and museums, the historic 70m-long Bayeaux Tapestry, cathedrals & abbeys, Château de Caen, Ornavik for Viking and early English history, and maybe the Medieval Festival at Château de Pirou (waiting for the release dates)!

US$100 (solo parents receive a 25% discount, use code SOLO at checkout)

Note: Families staying off-site will need to pay an Access Fee of 150€/family directly to the castle. 

Note: Prom is a separate event for teens aged 13-19, there will be a fee to cover decorations, DJ, refreshments. This is TBD.

LODGING & NEIGHBORHOODS:

Château de L’Isle Marie is located in Picauville, France. The castle, manor house, and campervan slots on site are fully booked. Local lodging alternatives include full-service campgrounds with cabins (more info in our Castle Stay FAQs) as well as local bed-and-breakfast businesses and Airbnb / Booking accommodations. Local transport is not available other than taxi, it is recommended to have a rental car. Note: the castle may have some transport options, more details to come. 

The host family will stay at Château de L’Isle Marie. Month-long stays are booked from April 15 - May 15. 

MEET YOUR HOST:

Rachel and her family will be hosting this event. Rachel's family has been on the road full time since 2018 with plenty of travel experience prior to that. Two of their children will join in this pop-up (ages 13 and 16), their oldest is out of the home. Favorite family travel destinations include Spain, New Zealand, Mexico, and Namibia, though Rachel also loves Sweden, Switzerland, and Laos.
