About The Event

Come join us in Muscat, Oman, and the Desert Dunes for a fun-filled and community-centered worldschooling gathering February 11 - 17, 2025.

The Worldschool Pop-Up Hub provides super casual, budget-friendly opportunities to gather, connect with other worldschoolers, learn about the local area, instill new friendships, share your insights, and immerse in a friendly, accepting mobile community. Our activities highlight local nature, history, food, and culture... but you'll also have plenty of time to relax, get to know each other, and even stray from the itinerary to add activities that cater to the group's interests.

Pop in for a few days or the full week. Join as many activities as you'd like. It's up to you!

Our itinerary will include activities such as the following:

*National Museum of Oman for Islamic contributions to art and science

*Exploring the desert looking for petroglyphs

*Desert Wadi hiking, swimming, and exploring

*Moutrah Souq for frankincense, camel products, and spices

*Finding desert kasbahs and forts to wander as living museums

*Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque

*Visiting wild and pristine Omani beaches

*Mutrah Fort for history of Oman and the desert people

*Road tripping through ancient villages, kasbahs, palm deserts, and local culture

MEET YOUR HOST:

Hi, I'm Bevin. We have been wandering the world since the kids were babies, and Alexander (14) and Cassia (11) love traveling as much as their mama. We learn as we wander and are always interested in unique & authentic cultural experiences. We have traveled to more than 75 countries since the kids were born, and we are always excited about finding new places we love, as well as returning to favorites.

LODGING & NEIGHBORHOODS & TRANSPORT:

Muscat is a broadly spread-out city and feels more like a string of distant and unrelated large towns separated by arid mountains. You feel like you have stepped back in time to a desert trading center. It's mountainous, desert, and entirely car-dependent, but the roads are good and calm and there is no traffic. It's spectacularly beautiful, the scent of frankincense permeating the desert air everywhere. If you enjoy an adventurous road trip exploring remote areas with beautiful scenery and surprises around every bend, this trip is for you. If you prefer cities with central downtowns and efficient public transportation or don't like driving distances, you may find this pop-up isn't a great fit. This is one of those places where you set out to explore and the journey is as exciting as a destination.

Accommodation is relatively expensive in Muscat, but you'll find a variety of options. The host family is staying at the Sheraton Muscat hotel, which has a central location and a great pool and is about US$90 / night. Another option, which is a bit more out of the way, is the Aloft Hotel near the airport which is roughly US$60/night and quite reasonable for the area. You'll already need a rental car to attend the activities, so either is a good choice.
