Come join us in Melaka, Malaysia for a fun-filled and community-centered worldschooling gathering from January 6 - 12, 2025.

The Worldschool Pop-Up Hub provides super casual, budget-friendly opportunities to gather, connect with other worldschoolers, learn about the local area, instill new friendships, share your insights, and immerse in a friendly, accepting mobile community. Our activities highlight local nature, history, food, and culture... but you'll also have plenty of time to relax, get to know each other, and even stray from the itinerary to add activities that cater to the group's interests.

Pop in for a few days or the full week. Join as many activities as you'd like. It's up to you!

Our itinerary will include activities such as the following:

*Play hide and seek with the local street art

*Sunset play on the beach and street food feast

*Visit a ship that sunk to the bottom of the sea

*Cycle through local countryside trying local fruits

*River walk through historic communities of Melaka

*Local street food walk

*Stroll through the botanical gardens

*Explore a submarine

*Try your hand a local arts and crafts of batik and weaving

*Boat trip up the river

Add-on options include Bear Hill hike, water park, reptile museum, boat trip to a mysterious abandoned island, and more!

MEET YOUR HOST: 

Hi there, We’re Julie, James (parents), Connie, & Agnes (11yo twins) - we are a British worldschooling family and have been outside of the UK for 15 years - 12 as expats in Abu Dhabi and for the last 3 years we’ve been living nomadically, going where the wind takes us (although so far we haven’t found a reason to leave Asia LOL).

We attended our first Worldschool Popup Hub in Penang in 2024 and enjoyed the community and exploring with many other families. 

In each place we visit we love to find good food, enjoy the local coffee, learn about the history & culture as well as explore. 

We visited Melaka in 2024 and enjoyed the vibe and the food (the food in Malaysia is spectacular, there is something for everyone), plus Melaka is only 2 hours from KL.  So we thought it would be fun to return to the city to share, learn more about this city, explore & make memories with more families.

LODGING & NEIGHBORHOODS & TRANSPORT:

Melaka is a vibrant city rich in history and culture, with many activities centered around Jonker Street, the bustling heart of the city. Jonker is not only the busiest area but also the gateway to most of Melaka’s historical sites, local eateries, and shopping spots. Staying here will be central for most of our activities. Beyond Jonker, we'll also venture into the surrounding countryside to discover Melaka’s unique flora, local fruits, and lesser-known historical sites, providing a well-rounded experience of this UNESCO World Heritage city.

The city is easy to explore, either on foot or by using Grab cars for quick and convenient transportation. The host family will be staying along the coastal road, about 2 km west of Jonker, offering a peaceful retreat with easy access to the main attractions. For those driving, be sure to confirm parking availability with your accommodation.
