About The Event

Come join us in Charlotte, North Carolina, for a fun-filled and community-centered worldschool gathering November 6-12, 2024.

The Worldschool Pop-Up Hub provides super casual, budget-friendly opportunities to gather, connect with other worldschoolers, learn about the local area, instill new friendships, share your insights, and immerse in a friendly, accepting mobile community. Our activities highlight local nature, history, food, and culture... but you'll also have plenty of time to relax, get to know each other, and even stray from the itinerary to add activities that cater to the group's interests.

Pop in for a few days or the full week. Join as many activities as you'd like. It's up to you!

Our itinerary will include activities such as the following:

*Freedom Park

MEET YOUR HOST:

Hello, I'm Charity. We are a family of four - Charity, Andrew, Charlie (10g), and Max (8b), from Charlotte, North Carolina. I am a flight attendant and Andrew is self employed and can work remotely. Andrew and I both traveled some before kids so naturally inaugurated each kid at two-months-old with their first trip. Since then, our traveling has evolved over a mixture of ways including slow travel, house-sitting, and home exchanging for months at a time (our longest being a year in France). We tried out our first popup in Sevilla Spain this past May and are hooked!

Our kids have been in a Spanish immersion public school, but after years of pushing the limits in attendance and flexibility, we are jumping full-time into worldschooling this coming fall. Our interests are hiking, diving, eating (pretty good at it!), meeting up with friends/family and wearing the same outfits days in a row! Favorite travel destinations have been Georgia, South Africa, France, Mexico, Bhutan, Vietnam, and NY (always). We would love to explore Guyana, Chile, and Brazil soon, too.

LODGING & NEIGHBORHOODS & TRANSPORT:

The city of Charlotte has a circular layout. The main downtown area, known as “Uptown,” is in the center, and all the other neighborhoods are spread around it. NoDa and University City lie to the northeast. South End and SouthPark are to the south.  You could easily drive in from surrounding suburbs such as Matthews and Ballantyne.  Most activities will be centered in and around Uptown and South Charlotte.

We recommend a car for getting around the city.  Ubers are readily available if you stay more central but could become pricey. Though there is a light rail that runs north-south connecting Uptown to South Charlotte, many of Charlotte's main attractions are not interconnected by public transit efficiently.

The host family lives in South Charlotte, near South End.
