MEET YOUR HOST:
I'm Ana and a mom of 3 homeschooled kids Maria (12), Elif (8,) and Efe (2). I like adventures, nature, and to have a life full of enthusiasm. Also I appreciate education in different forms since I've worked with children for the last 16 years. My family lives in Brasov, the city is our hometown. Since we cannot travel and worldschool at the moment, we would like to gather our old worldschool friends (from the Budapest Pop-Up we attended last year) and new friends, too, to show you a little part of Romania from a local point of view. This is what brings the enthusiasm I daily need. :)
GOOD TO KNOW: Romanian Holidays
Orthodox Romanians celebrate Easter on the 5th of May 2024. Stores and restaurants are closed on Easter Sunday, please stock up on groceries ahead of time. The holiday does not affect public transport or booking an Uber/taxi.
Also on the 1st of May, 3rd of May, and the 6th of May there are public holidays in Romania. Normally stores and restaurant are open, but they may have shorter operating hours. Again, transport is not affected.
LODGING & NEIGHBORHOODS & TRANSPORT:
Brasov is a relatively small city and a lot of the pop-up activities will take place in the old city center of Brasov. Close neighbourhoods to stay include the Old City Center, Prund-Schei, Grivitei, Centrul Nou. Valea Cetatii is also nice neighbourhood, close to the Tampa mountain and forest. The host is staying in the Astra neighbourhood.
For families travelling by foot or by car, the center is the best option. The pop-up activities in the old city center are at walking distance, for the other ones there are good connections by buses. In the center, you can easily find places to eat and it is a great opportunity to enjoy the most beautiful part of Brasov. If you are coming by car you should keep in mind that parking in the old city center is relatively difficult to find and there are parking fees. Public transportation is available in the city. Also there are affordable taxis and good train connections.
